PEVC 11-National Team raises over $5,000 for local charity

In addition to providing a premier club volleyball experience that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie, Panhandle Elite Volleyball Club teams also support the local community through volunteer work, outreach, and community service. An excellent case in point is the community service project recently undertaken by the PEVC 11-National team. The team visited FoodRaising Friends in Milton, to spend an evening sorting and packing groceries into individual gift bags, and to learn more about this very worthy organization.
FoodRaising Friends (FRF) is a local non-profit dedicated to making sure that the youth in our area have access to healthy meals. Each month, FRF provides hundreds of meals to teens who are homeless, unaccompanied, and often attend school or community programs to enhance their future. FRF strives to lessen the hardship of these students that may have to choose between working a job to pay for food and other necessities, and attending school. Additionally, FRF works directly with schools to provide meals to students that normally rely on free breakfast and lunch at school but are in need of free meals during extended school breaks.
The PEVC 11-National team was so inspired by their time at FRF that they decided to add a fundraising component to their service project: Team players solicited donations from family and friends, coaches chipped in, and one team parent's employment with Microsoft allowed the team to take advantage of a 100% matching donation. In the end, the team was thrilled to present a check to FRF for $5,260.
Becca McKeithen, FRF Founder and Executive Director, said "I am thrilled and so thankful. What excites me the most is that the girls were so touched by the work at FRF and that it inspired them to work harder in order to do more service. That inspires and propels me to keep doing what we do!"
